Oklahoma Baseball Snaps Two-Game Skid With 10-1 Win Over Washington Huskies

Oklahoma limped into Friday’s Big 12/Pac 12 challenge needing a boost. The Sooners had lost two consecutive games and hadn’t beaten a Pac 12 team since 2013. Sophomore pitcher Jake Elliott confidently stepped to the mound and boosted the team’s confidence with pitch after pitch. On Monday the 6-7/210 right-handed flamethrower was named as the Big 12 Co-Pitcher of the Week. On Friday he delivered a seven-inning performance where he gave up just a single run, off three hits, and struck out seven.

Sixty feet away from the pitcher’s mound Oklahoma put a pounding on Washington’s pitchers. The Sooners produced ten runs off eight hits and showed the patience to take advantage of six free passes. Junior Kolby Carpenter sent a three-run blast over the left-center field wall to cap a four-run fourth inning. Keeping the Huskies off the board until the seventh inning, the Sooners tacked up two more runs in the sixth before exploding for four more in the eighth. Carpenter and sophomore Austin O’Brien crossed home plate a team-high three times each. O’Brien earned his by going 2-for-3 from the plate and drawing a walk.

The win pushed Oklahoma’s season record back to .500 at 4-4. Up next for the Sooners in the Big 12/Pac 12 Challenge is Oregon State.

Notables

* Friday marked the seventh different lineup in eight games for Oklahoma

* Huskies starter Tyler Davis hadn’t given up a home run since 2013. That streak ended when Carpenter took him deep in the third for his second long ball of the season.

* In each of Oklahoma’s four wins this season the Sooners have held opponents to a single run.

* The last time OU beat a Pac 12 school was on March 9, 2013 when they downed UCLA 4-0.

* The Sooners are now 2-0 all-time against Washington in baseball.

Oklahoma Sooners MBB | Previewing The Texas Tech Red Raiders

Any time the Oklahoma Sooners step on the floor, an improved defense presents a major obstacle for their opponent. Isaiah Cousins and the crew are currently holding others to 37% shooting throughout the duration of the game. The defensive effort forces opposing offenses in an uncomfortable state. Need evidence? On January 28th, OU set a Big XII record for fewest points allowed in a conference game while allowing the Texas Tech Red Raiders to produce a mere 36 points. Now, looking to avoid a similar similar outcome, Tubby Smith must answer these three questions.

Can Texas Tech Match Oklahoma Point For Point?

Leading the team, Buddy Hield averages 17.2 points per game. While much of the defensive focus centers around the junior guard, there are a few others that need to be accounted for. Another junior, Isaiah Cousins, has the ability to take over a game at any given moment leaving TaShawn Thomas to dominate inside the paint. For Tech, Zach Smith continues to improve and could be the equalizer in the paint. However, a single player averaging over 10 points per game — Devaugntah Williiams — leaves plenty of room for scoring options.

Who Steps Up For Tech?

As mentioned above, Williams averages a team high 10.5 points per game. Behind him, Robert Turner adds another 8.7 points per game while no other player on the rosters hits above the 7 point mark. In their biggest win of the season over Iowa St., three different players collected at least 13 points. Against the Sooners, the Red Raiders will need to a similar outing. The only question that remains is: who will step up to lead this squad on Saturday?

Will Tech Pressure the Sooners?

Over the course of the season, the biggest weakness manifested itself in ball protection. Pressuring the Sooners in the back court has led to easy points as well as a plethora of turnovers. Initially exploited by West Virginia, other programs have keyed into the weak point. While none have been as successful, it gives a glimmer of hope. At home, will Tech follow the blueprint?

Sooners Fall Below .500 With 4-3 To Washington State

Oklahoma’s trip out west continues to be as the baseball team dropped its second game in as many days. This time the Sooners were victim to the Washington State Cougars who were able to build an early lead and then fend off OU attacks.

Three of WSU’s four runs came in the first inning when the Cougars sent six batters to the plate. Robert Tasin, who ultimately was rung up for the loss, settled down after that but the damage had already been done. Tasin threw into the third inning before giving way to Adam Choplick who ended up going a team high 4.1 innings. Both Tasin and Choplick struck out four batters each but Choplick also walked five batters while WSU pitchers gave up none.

The Sooners got their first hit in the third when Chris Shaw led off with a single to left field. Oklahoma’s first two runs came in the next inning Craig Aikin and Sheldon Neuse crossed home plate. OU then made it interesting in the ninth when they pushed across Quin Walbergh who was running for Anthony Hermelyn. The ninth inning run left OU one shy of tying the game thanks to Washington State’s Daniel Fredrickson who scored the deciding run in the seventh inning.

Oklahoma outhit Washington State by a margin of 8-6 but came up shy in the stat that matters most, Kolby Carpenter was the only Sooner to record more than one hit in the game by going 2-for-4.

OU now stands at 3-4 on the season and will play against Washington on Friday afternoon at 2:00.

Notables

* For the first time this season Oklahoma repeated a starting lineup

* Kolby Carpenter recorded his fourth multi-hit game this season

* Washington State is 9-5 all-time against OU in baseball

Oklahoma Sooners Football Recruiting / Sooners offer 2016 QB

Lincoln Riley made his second offer at quarterback for the class of 2016 in K.J. Costello. K.J. plays for Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Rancho Santa Magarita, California. Costello tweeted out his offer last night.

Blessed to receive an offer from Oklahoma University

⚪️ #BoomerSooner http://ift.tt/1MBZr7T

— kj costello (@kj_costello) February 19, 2015

Costello possesses great size 6-4/220 and would be consider more of a pro style quarterback. He is not a statue however and has decent mobility. He has offers from Bama, Arizona, ASU, Cal, UF, FSU, Stanford, USC, UCLA, Texas A&M, and Tennessee along with the Sooners. While the Sooners will have to overcome stiff competition to sign Kostello, they do have a huge bullet in their arsenal. They did not take a QB in the class of 2015. That is appealing to big time quarterbacks.

Costello also signals a change in direction for Sooner QB’s. Riley is looking for more prototypical drop back passers as opposed to dual threat.

Here is a highlight video of Costello in action: (HINT HE IS REALLY GOOD)

Oklahoma Sooners Football / Report: Diron Reynolds is New DL Coach

It sounds like the Sooners have found Jerry Montgomery’s replacement in Diron Reynolds. Bruce Feldman tweeted out the following:

#Stanford staffer Diron Reynolds is set to become the new D-Line coach at #Oklahoma, source tells @FOXSports

— Bruce Feldman (@BruceFeldmanCFB) February 19, 2015

Sooners reportedly look to Stanford to fill DL coach vacancy

One week after officially losing an assistant to the NFL, Oklahoma has reportedly turned to a long-time NFL assistant to fill that hole on Bob Stoops‘ coaching staff. Seventh Inning Rally Dooms Sooners In Desert Opener

The day before the Big 12/Pac 12 Challenge was to get underway the Oklahoma Sooners scheduled a game against the 17th ranked Arizona State Sun Devils. I mean, why not? Get your guys out there and let them get as much experience against top notch competition as they possibly can. It should only make them better and more seasoned as conference play approaches…even if they do take a few lumps along the way.

A three-run blast by Sheldon Neuse topped Oklahoma’s offensive night as the Sooners broke open the scoring in the third and held on to a lead until the bottom of the seventh. That’s when Arizona State rallied to plate five runs and put the game out of reach for the Sooners who were silenced on offense through the final three frames of the game.

A final score of 7-4 may not indicate just how close of a game this was but if for sure highlights the fact that atop Pete Hughes’ priority list has got to be development of pitching. Coach Hughes is relying heavily on a veteran staff to produce much better than they have to this point of their careers and through the first six games of the season the results have been mediocre at best.

It’s way too early to push the panic button on this team but it isn’t too early to say that rotation depth is a bit of a challenge at this point. The Sooners must come up with three guys to face the weekends of the Big 12 gauntlet and as of right now the only person who seems up to that challenge is sophomore Jacob Elliott. Not saying that the other two guys aren’t there, just saying that this heavy schedule at the front of the season is doing just what Hughes needs it to, it’s showing him exactly what stage of development his pitchers are in.

Upon his arrival in 2012, Leach employed former Texas Tech wide receiver Eric Morris and wide receivers coach Dennis Simmons to coach the Cougars wideouts. Oklahoma Sooners Football / Q&A with Washington State Expert on Dennis Simmons

First of all we would like to thank Britton K Ransford (@BKRansford) of  Wazzuwatch.com for taking time out of his busy schedule to help Sooner fans get to know Dennis Simmons. We hit him up with some questions that would help Sooner fans get to know their new WR coach, and he more than delivered. Below is a transcript of our Q&A session.

CCM: For the Sooner fans who really don’t know much about Simmons, what are some things that we should know as he begins his tenure in Norman?

Britton: Simmons is a passionate coach, and a darn good one at that. He knows the Air Raid offense in and out, and really connects with his players. He cares about the kids he coaches and recruits, and will, in my opinion, be an offensive coordinator relatively soon. He’s a quality coach that will be missed on the Palouse.

______________________________________________________

CCM: What should Sooner fans expect regarding Simmons as a recruiter? What are his primary recruiting areas? What type of impact should we expect?

Britton: Simmons was one of the Cougars’ top recruiters, focusing mostly on the Los Angeles area, but he also did some spot-recruiting, too. For example, he went into Oklahoma and flipped Dahu Green from Louisville, but we all know how that ended up. He also recruited Texas a little bit. As for his impact on recruiting, he’ll be able to recruit with the best of them. He is like a big brother to the players he recruits, and that translates to college as a coach. He pulled some top talent to WSU.

______________________________________________________

CCM: How would you rate Simmons ability to develop players at the WR position?

Britton: Simmons is as good as it gets when it comes to developing receivers. A prime example is Vince Mayle, who was playing college basketball just four years. Simmons found Mayle at a JUCO in California and fended off the likes of LSU, Ohio State, West Virginia and others for the massive receiver. It took Mayle awhile to catch on at the D1 level, but with Simmons’ teaching, he became one of the most dominant receivers in the country this season, in what was his third year of competitive football. He’ll do good things in Norman with those receivers.

______________________________________________________

CCM: Simmons obviously has ties with the current Sooner coaching staff, but how do you see him fitting in at Oklahoma?

Britton: Simmons will fit in fine in Oklahoma. He’s a personable guy and he’ll get a chance to be closer to his family. He obviously has a connection to Lincoln Riley and will bring a ton of experience in the Air Raid offense to the Sooners staff.

______________________________________________________

CCM: If you have ever had the ability to interview/interact with Simmons what were your impressions of him?

Britton: Very impressive. He’s professional, funny, down-to-earth and extremely knowledgeable, which I think is a trait that all of Leach’s former assistants bring with them.

Oklahoma Sooners 71 – Texas Longhorns 69 | Beyond The Box Score

It was a rough shooting night for the Sooners but somehow Lon Kruger’s squad was able to pull out a close win in the Lloyd Noble Center. By virtue of their 71-69 victory over the Longhorns, Oklahoma remains in contention for second place in the conference and nabbing that precious first round bye in the conference tournament. Here are a few things that you may, or may not, have noticed during Oklahoma’s game against Texas.

* Tuesday night marked Oklahoma’s fourth consecutive win over the Longhorns in basketball.

* Oklahoma turned a six point deficit at the 3:36 mark of the second half into a five point lead with just five seconds left by going on a 13-2 run.

* Tuesday night marked just the second time this season that the Sooners won a game by 10 points or less. Oklahoma won 64-56 at Oklahoma State on January 31 as well.

* Oklahoma committed a season-low five turnovers in the game but also had a season-high 13 shots blocked.

* Six of Jordan Woodard’s team-high thirteen points came in the final 3:13 second of the game, giving him nearly half of Oklahoma’s rally points.

* Buddy Hield’s twelve points marked the twentieth consecutive game Oklahoma’s junior guard has scored ten points or more.

* Frank Booker grabbed a season-high four rebounds to go along with his ten points.

* Dinjiyl Walker had scored five total points in Oklahoma’s last eight games. He came off the bench to score ten on Tuesday night which is the most he’s scored since the Sooners played in Austin on January 5th. He apparently really enjoys playing the Longhorns.

* Oklahoma outscored Texas 18-6 off turnovers.

* Texas Head Coach Rick Barnes was going for his 400th win. Looks like he’s gonna have to wait on it.

The Final Score 71-69 | The Oklahoma Sooners Win A Close Battle Against The Texas Longhorns

The length of the Texas Longhorns showed up tonight in full force collecting 13 blocks on the night. With the effort, the Oklahoma Sooners struggled to score in the paint. UT’s star, Myles Turner, continues to tear through the rest of the competition, this time coming off the bench while still recording a double double (17 points, 10 rebounds). Unable to force things inside, Buddy Hield and the rest of the gang relied on points off turnovers to secure a 71-69 win.

Three Takeaways

Oklahoma Finally Showed The Will To Win

In their previous six match-ups resulting a single digit decision, the Sooners managed to tally a single win. However, tonight showed a different side of a team that continues to hit their stride. After shooting just 36.1% from the floor, OU could have easily stepped back to fire up a few desperation three pointers. The idea becomes even more enticing knowing that no one could penetrate into the lane. Instead fans witnessed a team keep their composure while letting experience guide them to victory. This could be the sole reason Oklahoma earns their first post season win under Lon Kruger.

The Bench Finally Begins To Produce

Frank Booker came alive against Iowa State and it appears to have inspired at least one other player…Dinjiyl Walker. Continuing to ride a bit of the streak, Booker came through with 10 points of his while Walker added another 10. There could not have been a better time for these two to find their confidence as Hield and Isaiah Cousins struggled all night long. Needless to say, Kruger challenged the bench to earn the right to stay on the floor. Can these two keep the momentum building into the post season?

Jordan Woodard Is An Absolute Magician

There’s no denying that Woodard may be one of the best at finishing at the rim after contact. Let me explain this one in video form…

Oklahoma Sooners Football / Some DL Coach Speculating

Just a reminder that this is speculation and dot connecting, because as of yet no one has any concrete info on who the next DL coach will be. We would love to be able to fill everyone in, but as of now, nothing is out there that is definite. That being said there is some rumors and speculation. So we will summarize some of that here for you.

1. Mike Elston

Mike is the current DL coach for Notre Dame. He has experience coaching with Kerry Cooks along 3-4 experience. He is young and would be considered by many as a home run hire.

Interestingly enough, the Notre Dame 247sports website had an article today claiming that Notre Dame will hire Keith Gillmore as their new DL coach. The speculation is that Mike Elston would move to coach linebackers, but as of yet that has not been confirmed. Could it be that Notre Dame is aware that Elston is leaving and that Keith Gillmore will be his replacement?

2. Ron Burton

The Michigan St. DL coach would also be seen a really good hire. He might not have quite the pedigree of Elston, but he has produced some really good defensive lineman at Mich St. while not having the easiest school to recruit too. Burton speculation come from current Sooner DB coach Kerry Cooks most recent people followed on twitter. If you remember Cale Gundy followed Dennis Simmons on twitter well before he was hired at OU. Ron Burton

3. Sean Spencer

The Penn St. DL coach would again be considered an elite hire. He has followed James Franklin from Vandy to Happy Valley. The speculation on Spencer comes again from Kerry Cooks recent follows on twitter.

Report: DGB would’ve returned to OU if Jay Norvell did, too

Oklahoma’s collapse against Oklahoma State and Clemson may have cost the Sooners more than just a couple games. It probably cost co-offensive coordinator Jay Norvell his job, which in turn cost OU a season of Dorial Green-Beckham. At least, that’s how NFL Network’s Albert Breer tells it. Oklahoma Sooners MBB | Three Questions The Longhorns Must Answer Heading Into Norman

The Big XII continues to hold the title of toughest conference in the nation. As the season quickly comes to a close, a few programs look to eclipse the 20-win mark and punch their ticket to the Big Dance. The Texas Longhorns as well as the Oklahoma Sooners are two of those squads and will clash in Norman on Tuesday evening. After looking the part of a top ten program, the Longhorns fell from the rankings with a four game skid. Now riding a three game winning streak heading into the Red River Rivalry, here are three questions Texas must answer if they hope to pull out a road win.

Can Rick Barnes Earn Wins Over Ranked Opponents?

After an embarrassing loss in Austin to the Sooners earlier this year, Coach Barnes made a few changes leading to an impressive win over a ranked West Virginia team. However, the next three ranked opponents solved the riddle leading to more changes from the Longhorns. To date, Texas has recorded a single win over a ranked opponent. On Tuesday, in a hostile environment, UT has yet another opportunity to earn a win over a top twenty-five team.

Which Defense Will The Longhorns Deploy?

Moving to a zone defense, Texas held the Mountaineers to 24.1% shooting from the floor. They would follow up the performance by holding TCU to 33.3% shooting as all appeared to be going well for the Longhorns. There’s no denying the athleticism and length on the Texas roster which ultimately leads to a stingy zone. However, when meeting up with a quality shooting team like the Cyclones, everything fell apart as ISU shot 54.7% from the floor.

Oklahoma brings speed combined with the ability to move the ball and knock down shots from around the perimeter. It’s all about match-ups if Barnes hopes to stop guys like Buddy Hield and Ryan Spangler. Will the coach choose to utilize the length of his defenders or play man-to-man?

Who Will Carry The Load Against A Tough Defense?

A quick look at the stat sheet reveals the notion that Isaiah Taylor has not been his usual self against lesser opponents in the past two games. A six point average over those two games is a far cry from his seasonal average of 13.3 per game. Heading into a rivalry, the Longhorns must produce and it starts with Taylor who has the potential to drop 20+ on any given night. If the sophomore guard isn’t up to the task, can a guy like Javan Felix step up and fill the void?

Inside The Numbers With Oklahoma Baseball On Opening Weekend

While opening weekend could have gone much better for Oklahoma’s baseball team, it also could have been much worse. The Sooners dropped their series to Notre Dame, two games to one, but also swept Southern Illinois-Edwardsville two games to none.

Standing at 3-2 after the first three days of the season, the Sooners will now head west for a shot at Arizona State, in Tempe, and then on to the Big12/Pac 12 Challenge. Here are a few stats from opening weekend that you may find interesting.

Friday’s 6-1 Win Over Notre Dame

* Friday’s game against Notre Dame was the third consecutive opening day start for junior Kolby Carpenter. He’s started each of the last three years on opening day at three different positions (1B, DH, 2B).

* Sophomore Jake Elliott was the first right-handed pitcher to start on opening day since Michael Rocha did so in 2011.

Saturday’s 11-1 Win Over Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, 9-10 Loss To Notre Dame

* Three batters went yard (Alex Wise, Kolby Carpenter, Austin O’Brien).

* Anthony Hermelyn matched a career-high 4 RBI against SIEU

* Three Sooners (Chris Shaw, Quin Walbergh and Kyle Mendenhall) recorded the first hit of the Oklahoma careers against SIEU. All three hits came in the seventh inning.

Sunday’s 1-5 Loss To Notre Dame, 9-1 Win Over Southern Illinois-Edwardsville

* Junior Craig Aikin extended his hitting streak to 17 games dating back to last season. It is a career-best streak for Oklahoma’s three-year starter.

* Sooner batters recorded 27 walks and six hit-by-pitch to just 18 strikeouts.

* Relief pitcher Jacob Evans threw the final 1.1 innings against Notre Dame making him the only Sooner hurler to make two appearances over the weekend. He also threw two innings against the Irish on Friday.

* The Sooners used five different lineups in their five games over the weekend.

* Oklahoma has racked up nine stolen bases in the first five games.

Oklahoma Pitcher Jake Elliott Picks Up Weekly Conference Honor

The last time an Oklahoma hurler picked up a weekly honor from the Big 12 Conference was in 2013 when Jonathon Gray and Dillon Overton were leading the team to the NCAA Super Regionals. On Monday that dry streak came to an end when sophomore Jake Elliott was named the conference co-pitcher of the week along with Baylor’s Sean Spicer.

In Oklahoma’s season opener, against Notre Dame, Elliott struck out four batters and gave up just two hits during seven scoreless-innings of work. The Sooners won 6-1 over the Irish as Elliott delivered the best performance by an OU pitcher over the weekend.

Elliott, 6-7/220, is a sophomore from Coppell, Texas. Last season he threw a 3.56 ERA over the course of eleven starts but was also strapped with a 2-3 season record. Last week he was tabbed as the day one starter making him Oklahoma’s top candidate to be the ace of the staff.

Oklahoma Sooners Football / DL Coach Mike Pelton to Stay at Georgia Tech

Sooners fans are nearly dying to find out who will be the next Defensive Line coach for the Sooners. Last week Bob Stoops interviewed Brick Haley and Mike Pelton. Moments ago Mike Pelton, who had interviewed last week let it be known that he will stay at GTech.

The Georgia Tech Rivals.com site just tweeted out the following:

#GaTech DL coach Mike Pelton @peester50 tells JOL he will be STAYING at Tech. (Free story) https://t.co/Doo3Baalnt spurns #Oklahoma interest

— Kelly Quinlan (@Kelly_Quinlan) February 16, 2015

Well now that Brick Haley has officially been hired at Texas and Mike Pelton is staying at GTech, it’s time to continue the waiting and speculation game. Hopefully for the Sooners, the right coach will be hired and in the next few days. This search has been incredibly quiet and not much of anything is known.

So the wait continues….

Oklahoma Sooners Football Recruiting / Mulitple New Linebacker Offers Go Out

The Sooners are scouring the nation for linebackers in the class of 2016. Yesterday they landed their first linebacker commit in the class of 2016 in Jon-Michael Terry.  Terry appears to be the first of many in the class of 2016. The Sooners have continued to evaluate prospects and these evaluations have resulted in 3 new offers in the past 24 hours. Here are the players:

Marvin Terry 6-2/225 from South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas, TX

OFFERS: Ark, Cal, Louisville, TCU, Oregon, SMU, UCLA, TTech, Wisconsin, and now the Sooners.

Krys Barnes 6-2/220 from Liberty High School in Bakersfield, CA.

OFFERS: Boise St., Colorado, LSU, Nebraska, Oregon, Utah, USC, Washington, Washington St, and now the Sooners.

Jaleel Laguins 6-2/210 from Oconee County High School in Watkinsville, GA

OFFERS: Auburn, Florida, UGA, Nebraska, Penn St., Tennessee, and now the Soones.

While Barnes and Laguins would appear to be longshots because of location, I believe the Sooners have a more than decent chance at a player like Terry. The Sooners need a minimum of 4 linebacker commits for the class of 2016, but ideally would land 5. Ideally the Sooners would land 3 outside linebackers and 2 inside linebackers.

Oklahoma Sooners MBB | TaShawn Thomas Earns Big XII Newcomer Of The Week Honors

Senior forward TaShawn Thomas has been named the Big XII Newcomer of the Week. Playing above his seasonal marks on the week, Thomas earned the honor for the third time this year despite suffering a loss to Kansas St.

During a top twenty-five matchup on Big Monday against Iowa State, the Houston transfer helped lead his team to a comeback victory. Pouring in 22 points while adding 11 rebounds to secure a double-double, Thomas tied a Big XII season record with 11 field goals. Most impressively, the Sooner forward tacked on five assists and three blocks in what could be considered an upset win.

To follow up the stellar outing, the Sooner forward notched 10 points and 5 rebounds to go along side another three blocked shots. There’s no denying this forward continues to provide a spark on defense as the group buys into what Lon Kruger is preaching.

Congratulations TaShawn!

Oklahoma Sooners Football Recruiting/ Sooners Pick Up 2nd Commit for 2016 Class

The Sooners junior day was a huge success as players poured into Norman this afternoon. Several offers were handed out and one player wasted no time in committing to the Sooners. That player is Jon-Michael Terry.

SoonerScoop.com broke the news with the following tweet

BREAKING: @JLMcCuistion confirms #Sooners pick up commit from Tulsa Victory Christian standout Jon-Michael Terry http://t.co/MK0KPxvY8N

Bob Stoops followed up with a tweet confirming the area code

It also appears that the Sooners have a new hashtag and saying for the class of 2016 #OUDNA

Jon-Michael Terry should fit in at OLB for the Sooners.

The reality is that the Sooners didn’t get their first linebacker commitment of the class of 2015 until December. Now the have their first linebacker commitment of the 2016 at their first Junior Day in February.

Big XII Officiating Becomes Laughing Stock Of College Basketball

There have been murmurs of the terrible, and I mean terrible, Big XII Officiating crew. On Saturday night, the ignorance and incompetency of said officials reared its ugly head. On three separate occasions, the crew assigned to referee the Oklahoma Sooners and Kansas State Wildcats game flubbed calls. One can be dismissed, however three remains inexcusable. While there’s no expectation of perfection, refs should be held accountable for their actions.

Here are the three aforementioned occasions, or examples as I call them below.

Example #1

How is this a foul on Spangler…someone please explain? https://t.co/Q4NGGKnC6R

Oklahoma’s Frank Booker fires up a shot from the corner recognizing the team’s leading rebounder, Ryan Spangler, awaits underneath the basket. As the shot bangs off the rim and begins its decent toward earth, Spangler gets tangled up with Stephen Hurt. Continuing on, Hurt pulls a classic WWE move throwing Spangler to the floor. The result? Spangler picks up the foul…if anyone cares to explain this to me and the rest of Sooner Nation, we are all ears!

Example #2

The shot that changed the outcome of the game #ShotClock #PoorOfficiating https://t.co/7VJV5QxWUC

A course altering play, Justin Edwards realizes the lack of time on the shot clock. Hoping to create an opening Edwards comes to a jump stop while pump faking his defender. Readjusting to square his body up, Edwards moves both feet which should have resulted in a travel call. Instead the play continues as Edwards elevates to release his shot. Unfortunately, the pump fake took up precious time allowing the shot clock to clearly hit zero before the ball had been released. Needless to say, three points were added to the board…eternally.

Example #3

Lattin’s 4th a phantom call? I think so! https://t.co/FBhMNGtLoh

The least worrisome of the three, I present you with the last of my examples. Trailing the play, #12 Khadeem Lattin hustles back on defense just as Wesley Iwundu decides to attack the rim. As Lattin falls away from Iwundu, he swipes at the ball as a last resort effectively picking up his fourth foul. However, TaShawn Thomas clearly makes contact with the body and crosses the arms of Iwundu. Needless to say, someone’s eyes might need to be checked as that foul clearly belonged to Thomas if anyone.
